The digital euro in Cyprus

The digital euro is a eurozone-wide project. Rules will be the same everywhere the euro is used. Your national central bank is the best local source of information.

A few things to know locally

  • Euro banknotes and coins remain legal tender in Cyprus regardless of the digital euro. Cash acceptance rules are set at EU and national level.
  • Access to the digital euro would go through supervised payment service providers, typically your existing bank.
  • Watch out for local-language scams claiming pre-registration or investment. No one can sell you a digital euro.
